More scottie finds

A gentleman I work with likes to go to estate sales and antique shops and is always on the lookout for scottie stuff for me. He found these 3 items at an estate auction last weekend, and picked up all 3 for just $7!!

Scottie find

A friend of mine found this silk scottie scarf in a little boutique in Monticello IN and picked it up for me -- it is a very heavy (maybe double layer) silk with silky fringe on the edges.

First 3D scottie pincushion

Here is my first 3D felted wool scottie pin cushion. Also in the photo is the cookie cutter I used as the form.

More on the $45 pincushion

I decided to buy some scottie shaped cookie cutters in order to make scottie shaped wool felt pin cushions, so that increases the total for the $45 pin cushion by about $90, since I only had a couple of scottie cookie cutters already! Here are photos of the ones I had, and the new ones I purchased.

Oh no!! I'd better get busy on some quilting projects and get my "net stash" back in the black!!

Fell off the stashbuster wagon!

Ruthie, Tammy, Janet & I went to a sewing seminar on saturday -- and while I did very well avoiding fabric at the vendors there, I went nutso at the local quilt shop Always In Stitches and later at Quiltmakers in Fishers! Here are some photos of what I bought --

more new patterns!
Some of Alex Anderson's new fabric line - are they gorgeous?!

Four fat quarters that I purchased - the wild pink one is a Kaffe Fasset that was a freebie at the seminar!

Fabric found at Always in Stitches - goes with my current pink/chocolate collection

One yard cuts for the nickel swap that our guild is doing - I was torn as to whether I should count this as "stash" since I am giving it away in the swap.....but they are counted so I won't have to count the nickels I receive in the swap

The $45 pincushion

Last night I attempted to make my own felted wool pincushion because I was too cheap to buy a ready-made one for $15. I enjoyed the process so much, I went to the local yarn shop today at noon and bought $45 worth of roving to make more!! sheesh! Below are photos of the original attempt, the roving and the pincushion I made tonight, which looks suspiciously like the one I made last night, even though I used all different rovings!

new project

I decided that I wanted a felted wool pin cushion - and the cost was more than I really wanted to spend, so I put on my thinking cap, did some testing and came up with the above. It's really not as big as I would like, so I think I will add more roving to this one. I started with some felted wool fabric, and needled it into a ball shape and then wrapped roving around it. I tried felting it by hand, but it's not very firm, so adding more roving and felting it again will improve it -- I hope!
